Lack of Engineers

Do you know?

Did you know one of the highest paid jobs working on a Superyacht is the engineer? Yet the maritime industry are lacking in qualified engineers!

An engineer is responsible for just about everything on the yacht that could break and need to be fixed. This includes the main engines to smaller pieces of equipment like jet skis, televisions, refrigerators, air-conditioning, etc. This individual must be able to trouble-shoot and repair virtually everything in the confines of the vessel. Additionally, a good engineer will have a good knowledge base of finding and purchasing parts as well as maintaining inventories of all parts and to be prepared for breakages, replacements, etc.

To work on a vessel over 24m as an engineer you should hold a Standard of Training and Certification of Watchkeeping 95 (STCW95) and a valid MCA Advanced Engine Course (AEC). This is where OMT Training are here for you. We provide MCA Engineering courses from Approved Engine Course to Y4 skills . Do not worry if you are new to engineering as the AEC will help you to recognise scenarios and promote good engineering skills.

Don’t know where to start, need advice and training, or even help to point you in the right direction? Don’t hesitate to call or email.
